EUCIS-LLL is organising its annual Conference on “Lifelong Learning Contribution for a Better Tomorrow:Social Innovation for Active Inclusion” on 14 May 2012 in Leuven, Belgium. This event will gather actors coming from the various sectors of education and training. It will tackle and propose innovative ways to combat educational disadvantage and fight youth unemployment. The conference will also provide a specific insight on the opportunities of intergenerational learning, in the context of the current European Year 2012 on Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.

Italian authorities will celebrate the official launch of the European Year 2012 with the event entitled “Demographic challenges and solidarity between generations”, to be held in Rome on April 18th.

The conference will count with the presence of the Minister for International Cooperation and Integration, Andrea Riccardi. Other speakers will be Alessandro Giordani, from the European Commission Representation in Rome; Angel Mari, from the Family Policies Department; Maciej Kucharczyk, from Age Platform Europe; Gian Carlo Blangiardo, from the University of Milano-Bicocca, and representatives from the regions of Liguria, Lazio and Campania.

The event will also have a “Get Involved!” area, where good practices and projects related to Active Ageing will be presented by NGOs and social organizations.

EDEN CONFERENCE eScouts paper

The European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) will celebrate in 2012 its annual conference in Porto, Portugal, from June 6th to 9th.

The conference will approach the key questions on learning methodologies and technologies, focusing on the “Open learning generations” and two significant target groups: junior and senior e-learners. Participants will explore their learning cultures, technology consumption patterns and discuss new approaches in pedagogy and andragogy.

The changing technology’s dimension (development of networking tools, new platforms and standards and interoperability questions) will also be addressed from the perspective of different groups of users.

Keynote speeches will be delivered, among other reknown authorities and experts, by Nuno Crato, Minister of Education Portugal; David White, Honorary Director General European Commission DG Education and Culture; Bob Fryer MBE, Chair of Board, Campaign for Learning UK, and Francesc Pedro, Chief of Section for Sector Policy Advice and ICT in Education, UNESCO.

Some of the conference topics will be:

• How to use emerging technologies to create new socio-economic value for learning for different generations?
• Reasons and ways of cooperation between generations in e-learning
• Technology skills and competences needed for ICT enhanced learning of older people
• What difficulties do learners, teachers and developers encounter in e-learning across generations and how are they overcome?

The expected attendance of the conference is 450 delegates from Europe and other continents. Besides the high level speakers, there will be 20+ workshops and 100+ double reviewed papers with research achievements will be presented, as well as case studies and projects.

“Ethics Management: the model of Stewardship” – Friday, March 23rd, 2012

“Management ethics: the model of stewardship” is a seminar on stewardship practices and strategies, as a new model of ethical management of resources. The meeting, sponsored by the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Rome, La Sapienza, in collaboration with the Association Reflective Learning Italy (RL-IT) (http://reflectivelearning.it/),  will be held on March 23rd 2012 at PortaFuturo (http://www.portafuturo.it/),Rome. Building on the methods and reflective learning culture and the development of participatory models of action, oriented to the enhancement of individual resources, professional and organizational RL-IT combines the model of the leader as steward proposed by Peter Senge, with the methodology PAAR (Participation, Action, Appreciativeness, Reflexivity) developed by Tony Ghaye, making the transition from the concept of “stewardship as a process”, the concept of “stewardship as a capability.”

will be hosted in Paris a SOLIDAR meeting network mem-bers. eScouts Dissemination team will take part to this meeting to present the project. Arci team, in collaboration with Solidar team, will organize a workshop focused on pre-senting the project aims and the expected achievements, results and impact. During the workshop will be presented the eScouts promotional video; This video was built thanks to the Facilitators interviews done during the Sofia Extra Training. The workshop results will be present though Solidar channels and members. eScouts logo will be in-cluded in the SOLIDAR network. This means greater visibility throughout Europe.
